The reference given by the person asking was not the right one in the Urkunden I looked at, so perhaps a revised version of that book? Anyway, Djehuty was not a soldier. I have no idea what he would have been doing in the Sudan in order to see anybody taking any booty. Regardless, everything was done in the name of Hatshepsut at that time. A woman could not lead men into battle in ancient Egypt--unless the Egyptians wanted the enemy to die laughing. I'll bet she was never there.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38472234.post-73240351267794235182018-03-11T10:04:37.606+01:002018-03-11T10:04:37.606+01:00Some 60 years ago Labib Habachi published an artic...Some 60 years ago Labib Habachi published an article (JNES 16.2 (1957), pp. 88-104) that referenced an inscription from the tomb of Djehuty (Urkunden des Aegyptischen Altertums 4, 399: 2, 6) which tells us that Djehuty "saw the queen (sic) herself collecting booty" on the field after a battle. This article was pointed out to me by the late Alan R. Schulman when I was a grad student. I can't read the transcription in the Urkunden (I'm a medievalist, not an Egyptologist), and I haven't found a translation. Can you point me to an article that discusses or translates this inscription? I would also like to find a visual of this source, clearly identified since I can't tell one Djehuty inscription from another. Everything I've found is in better condition than this particular item appears to be based on the Urkunden transcription. Is this the "second biography?" Any references would be appreciated. I read German, French and Italian and can probably pick my way through Spanish. (Sorry about the Anonymous, but I didn't see where to leave an email address confidentially. Don't want to attract even more spam! Will check back.)
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38472234.post-85861465828508327592018-01-30T02:55:37.772+01:002018-01-30T02:55:37.772+01:00Wow nice post, thanks for sharing information.Wow nice post, thanks for sharing information.Obat Keputihan Di Apotikhttp://obatkeputihandisertaibaugataldanperih.web.id/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38472234.post-8504123552903301162018-01-03T20:56:33.925+01:002018-01-03T20:56:33.925+01:00Fascinating post, fascinating blog. I am a black woman myself and Yes Cleopatra was white. However the reason why we hear so much aout her is for this reason. By the time she came on the scene some of the Khamitic Kings married white women as marrying women was a gesture of commardery amoung nations at the time. The king who married Cleopatrara at the time elevated her to the status of Queen Mother. Then when the real racist historians came along in the early 19th century and studied ancient Egypt finding that they were indeed Black they did everything they could to change that truth, blowing off the nose of the ancient staues so no one could see the obvious Negro features; and yes they sold hundreds of copies of the Cloeparta bust to try to grive credence to the history they wanted to change. But the Egyotian language, the way they viewed and worshiped God and the dieites; the aspect of God, all point to the south i. e everything below Egypt in Africa. Queen Hat Shep Sut ( who is definilty Black ) left an entire wall showing and stating in writing and pictorial images that she along with her enterougae made many pilgrimages to the land of PUNT which is what anthropoligist say is somehwhere around Mt Kenya In reference to the language the word Auset is Yemeanya in the Yourba tradition, Nana Ase in the Akan and I can go on on there just too many because Africa is vast. But with time I can give you a list of all of the names of all of the deities and also similar languages in many parts of Africa that are the same or similar to those found in ancient Egypt words with the exact same meaning. The language similarities cannot be found in Europe with the exception of the word Europe itself which was a name taken for the Black Goddess Europa (See Not Out of Greece by Dr. Ra Nefer Amen}. It was only in later times that with the exception of the Hysisos who contributed nothing to Egypt and was kicked out within 100 years of their 40000 year history that white people ever showed a presences in Ancient Egypt.
In addition to this world scientific community's DNA project has already proven that yes all life originated in Africa, so essentially we were all Black at some point. So lets celebrate the beauty of the life we were given upon this once beautiful earth and stop denying the history of others. I've always been interested in Middle Eastern history and I collect Middle Eastern coins. I know this is an old post, but I wanted to share my insight from a numismatist's point of view.

There seems to be a bit of a conundrum with noses and coins. Another good example of varying portraits on coins is the coinage of the Seleukid king Antiochos VIII Epiphanes. Antiochos was nicknamed "Grypos" or "Hook Nose" by his subjects and he seemed to be regarded as a Hellenistic Habsburg. However, there are countless different depictions of the king on his coinage. Here are a few:

From Antioch: https://www.cngcoins.com/photos/big/995857.jpg
From Sidon (and from my personal collection): https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=276364
From Ake-Ptolemaïs: http://emaxbid.com/images/lot/5013/5013_4.jpg
Also from Sidon: https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=30436

As you can see, the issues from Sidon and Ake depict the king with a subtler nose, while the issue from Antioch shows him with a beaklike schnozzola. Antioch was the capital of a then-ailing empire and it's possible that the die-engravers at that city were fed up with the king and wanted to make a caricature of him. In addition, the Antioch issue was minted around a decade after the other issues. The same goes for Zenobia; the uglier portrait came from a later date. Maybe the Palmyrenes of Alexandria were in the same situation as the Seleukid die engravers and wanted to take a bite out of their queen. Just a thought!

I'm really enjoying your blog. While the terrorists of the world are wreaking havoc in the cultural arteries of the world, it's nice to know that a few of us truly care!
Thanks so much,
Zeki HirschAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11864034866566351661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38472234.post-38752760370661648712017-03-22T21:08:30.719+01:002017-03-22T21:08:30.719+01:00Moose, check out footnote *: that's the source...Moose, check out footnote *: that's the source. It is ...I get it and appreciate the recommendation. It is definitely a library research book! In my attempt to present a realistically complex world of women in my in-process novel on a very real woman -- Athaliah, the only queen of ancient Judah, set in ninth century BCE, I often have to come to my own conclusions on how women actually lived, especially royal women. Susan Ackerman, I believe, is the leading scholar on ancient Israelite women, but most of what we can ascertain is about rural life. I find much scholarship relies so heavily on a contemporary feminist Western worldview that they make sweeping assumptions not reflective of a complex society having a very different worldview, whether in the Ancient Near East or the modern Middle East. I'm eager to explore these scholars' take and hopefully find fresh fodder for this novel (already in the fifth year working on it).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09459795723157354796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38472234.post-68898752416961307612017-03-16T20:11:18.514+01:002017-03-16T20:11:18.514+01:00If you live near a university library that has thi...If you live near a university library that has this (or any) book you want to read, you can usually get a visitor's pass and access the library catalog.
